Okay, you threw down the gauntlet by asking the first question in this posting. So I tried (which you also probably did) to find using Google some explanation of the old cliche. No luck...there were explanations of what it meant but nothing that 'splained why a pin is neat. And thinking about it I can't really come up with a good reason. Another cliche that I've never been able to understand or find an explanation as to the derivation for is saying something is going "to hell in a handbasket." Maybe you know the meaning of that one and can enlighten me.
