For those not on Pinterest, here are a few of those internet joke thingies that made me laugh.

The Win in Winsome

I was going to have a fun little post about the Minnesota State Fair today, but it has been a long 17 hours and I hear it is a gazillion degrees with humidity in the old Land O'Lakes. Can you imagine being the poor sap stuck in the root beer barrel or the corn roast station? Oy...

Today I participated in an orientation of sorts. We had to do "improv games" for 90 minutes. Midway through the session, one of the more seasoned employees scampered up to me chuckling that she "stopped listening to the leader and just followed what I was doing, since I seemed to be doing everything right". I wanted to reply, "Well, I hope so - $100k+ investment went into my knowing how to do theatre games". But I just smiled and laughed along with her.

But, it wasn't all "Yes, and..." games...I also was introduced to this TED talk by Sarah Kay. Love it. Have already replayed it a handful of times. I hope it means something to you, too.

Novel Receipt

A couple of weeks back, I instagrammed a photo of my disproportionate CVS receipt (I'd bought one soft drink) while enjoying an afternoon at the park.

A few minutes later on Twitter, it was favorited by a certain "CVS_Receipt".

Obviously, I thought this was hilarious. I especially enjoyed its first tweet on June 29:

I appreciate a good personification through Twitter. After all, I was a huge fan of the Bronx Zoo's Cobra.

Turns out, CVS Receipt is getting some attention:

Oh, CVS, and your unnecessarily long receipts...it's like a little inside joke a few hundred thousand of us share.

Deltalina

With certain flight routes consistent for me, I've become a Delta frequent flyer.

I've been pretty pleased - air travel in general has become sigh-inducing, requiring the highest level of patience, and at least if you are familiar with a certain company, you know what to expect and which rules can be bent in order to make your journey more of a pleasure in the sky.

As the Delta flights added up, I became more and more humored by this :
Recognize her? Or more specifically, the finger wag?

This was Delta's preflight safety video for years.
You can skip to 1:50 to see noted "wag".
"Smoking...is not allowed..."

Yep. That line and that movement.
It was just so catchy. Something that made me smile pre-takeoff. Or was it the vodka & OJ?

During one flight to the tropics, I was informed by a seat mate (who chuckled seeing me imitate the wag/phrase), that the stern yet playful flight attendant with great facial bone structure was indeed a flight attendant! Not an actress! This gentleman had met her and even knew the redhead's name -
Kat. Katherine Lee, formally.

I wasn't sure that I believed him. But who is going to argue when you have 4 hours to spend together with only reused oxygen to breath.

I settled in to my limited recline window seat to enjoy the usual safety instruction video, finger prepped to enforce to my imaginary passenger that she could not smoke, for it was NOT allowed (wag-wag-wag).

Alas! It was a different video! At first, I was disappointed and miffed. But then I ended up being even more amused at the new, cheekier version that was playing. And they even gave a nod to Kat!

Version #1
Version #2

And who doesn't like some good outtakes?:

I approve. And I guess I'm not the only passenger who becomes obsessed with such things as goofy airline safety videos and charismatic flight attendants/airline safety video stars.
At least so says the New York Times in this article:
At least I didn't propose to Deltalina...

YET.

No Selfies Allowed

I go gaga over the SNL photos by Mary Ellen Matthews.
Sexy, dopey, suave, playful, nonchalant, fierce, edgy...all at once.

Say cheese!

I May Be Left-Handed...

but I'm always right!

It's Left Handers' Day!

So hug your favorite southpaw. We go through a lot. Or high five. With your LEFT hand, of course!

Make 'em laugh!

Do you like to laugh?

If you've ever ventured into Times Square for more than just a picture of the M&M Store, you have probably been stopped mid-powerwalk by someone with a clipboard asking you the above question, in hopes of suckering you into seeing a comedy show that evening.

I usually respond with a quick "NO", not stopping my stride.

But, it's true - I do, I do like to laugh. How did they know?

Being a commuter on public transportation, I especially like to laugh as a distraction during my ride to and from work. Hence my request on Facebook a few weeks back for humorous reads - and boy, did you Facebook friends deliver.

It turns out Facebook is healthy and good for something!

I will forewarn you that some of these books are so funny, that you may embarrass yourself guffawing in close-quarters public transport. In fact, I had to save Bossypants for before bed and move on to Notes from the Underground when in public. No laughing there.

Okay for Now - Gary D. Schmidt
David Sedaris
Christopher Moore
Bossypants - Tina Fey
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) - Mindy Kaling
Children of God Go Bowling: A Novel - Shannon Olson
Jen Lancaster
Bill Bryson
Anonymous Rex: A Detective Story - Eric Garcia
Carl Hiaasen
Gawky: Tales of an Extra Long Awkward Phase - Margot Leitman
Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation - Lynne Truss

Since we are on the subject of funny words, I must say that I've been delighted by Instyle Magazine's newish feature, Last Laugh, penned by actress & funny lady, Megan Mullally.
I'm posting all 8 published columns. They are that funny, it will be worth the scroll down.

I bet you laughed. And I bet you liked it.
